The Spring Eating Disorder Colloquium The Art of Understanding Body Image By: Judith Greer Essex,
MFT, REAT
The Art of Understanding Body Image is one hour of exploration of
the various aspects, components, principles and systems that contribute to
healthy body image, or to body image problems. In additional to a
comprehensive overview, this lecture discusses why art making is a preferred
therapy for body image issues.
Judith Greer Essex is a licensed marriage and family therapist and a registered
expressive arts therapist. For over 35 years she has been using art based
approaches in psychotherapy and education with a wide variety of
people. She is respected as an expert in body related issues in
psychotherapy and teaches at several universities, including the European
Graduate School, Switzerland, where for the past eleven years she has been a
thesis advisor and faculty as well as artist-in-residence. Judith offers
CEU courses related to the arts in psychotherapy.
