Managing Costs
All of us at Trish Stanley Referral Network are available to discuss how to manage the cost of psychological treatment. Al of our therapists are licensed professionals with many years of experience associating with insurance carriers. Many of our therapists are approved providers on many insurance plans and provide complimentary insurance verification and billing. If a therapist is not a preferred provider on your insurance panel benefits may still be available through your "out-of-network" benefits.
It is important to understand that when an insurance company is billed for psychological treatment a psychiatric diagnosis is required by the insurance company. We strongly urge you to discuss this diagnosis with your therapist as it becomes part of your permanent medical records and may be considered a "pre-existing condition" if you change insurance carriers in the future.
There are a number of advantages to paying for therapy yourself. the benefits include a greater degree of confidentiality (to the extent allowed by law) unless you specifically authorize (in writing) your therapist to release information. In addition, your treatment plan, psychological prognosis and clinical diagnosis are not communicated to the insurance company and you determine the length of treatment needed - not the insurance company. Also, you as the client are free to choose a therapist based on your individual or family needs and paying for your own counseling often contributes to a greater commitment to work towards treatment goals. We recommend talking to your therapist regarding privately contracting an "out -of-pocket" price with your therapist and a sliding-scale based on financial need may be available. Again, please feel free to speak to your prospective therapist for the options you have.
